UH vs BYU
Dear Students:
One of the best regular seasons in recent Houston Cougar Basketball history
has come to an end. As a result of our success, we have received a bid to
host BYU in the National Invitational Tournament (NIT) on Wednesday, March
15 at 7:30 p.m. This is a real positive for YOUR basketball program, our
athletic department and the entire University of Houston community.
Last year, we won 18 games in Tom Penders' first season. This year, we have
already won 20 (for the first time since 1993) and we have the opportunity
to win a few more in the NIT. Coach Penders and his staff have this
basketball program on the move back to national stature.
I encourage all of our students to be at Hofheinz Pavilion on Wednesday
evening to exhibit support and enthusiasm for this basketball program. YOUR
HOME TEAM needs your help, even though you are on Spring Break this week.
Your support this season has been extremely helpful in turning this program
around and we need you to continue to help us RESTORE THE ROAR.
Because this is a post-season game, tickets for Wednesday night's game are
$4 (the minimum amount required by the NIT for college students) for UH
students. Stop by the Ticket Office on the first floor Athletics/Alumni
Center during normal business hours to get your tickets. Tickets can also be
purchased at the Cullen entrance of Hofheinz Pavilion starting at 6 p.m. on
Wednesday. Students must present their Cougar 1 Card to get their discount.
The last Tom Penders Coach's Show of the year will be tonight at 8 p.m. at
Irma's Southwest Grill on the corner of Dallas and Texas in Downtown
Houston. The Houston Cougar basketball team will be in attendance, so come
out to the show, meet the team, and cheer on your Cougars before they take
on the "other" Cougars from BYU. The broadcast can be heard live on ESPN
790.
